If you have not had an audit done on your home, now is the best time to do it. New York State has a program called Green Jobs - Green New York (GJGNY). This program gives qualifying homeowners a free or low cost home energy audit. Through the GJGNY home energy audit, home owners can recieve rebates and low-cost financing towards energy improvements made on their home.
Only participating Building Performance Institute (BPI) accredited Home Performance Contractors can offer the GJGNY energy audit. Halco is one of the accredited BPI contractors in your local area. If you are interested in taking advantage of this great opportunity all you need to do to start this process is fill out this form and submit 12 months utility usage.
A home energy audit includes:
-
A health and safety inspection that includes a whole house check up on carbon monoxide, mold, correct venting on appliances and exhaust fans to better protect your family.
-
A blower door test that will depressurize the house so we can see where the air is coming into the house and a smoke pencil test that will show if you have leaky windows, doors and closets. This will give better idea where you are losing money in heating and cooling your house.
-
A thermal imagining camera is used to show where you might be lacking insulation in the walls and how effective any current insulation is.
